Additional ice data could be acquired; for example, the U.S. Navya#39;s GEOSAT, launched in March 1985, includes a satellite altimeter that can accurately detect the position of the sea-ice margin. It covers 72Ad S to 72* N latitude, which includes Alaskan waters of interest to the oil industry.
