Twelve Latino community college faculty members from public two-year institutions in Illinois participated in this qualitative study. The participants engaged in personal interviews, which lasted, on average, 90 minutes. Participants identified precollege factors that influenced college enrollment. They also discussed factors which contributed to a successful transition to, and persistence in, college life. Finally, participants spoke of undergraduate experiences that may have led them to pursue careers as community college faculty and offered strategies for degree attainment to current Latino college students.workshops they offered: developing effective letters, practicing for interviews. She used the Office for another important purpose: They helped me put together a resume. ... Theya#39;d put my awards, activities from high school, I was a research assistant. . .and I thought now that theya#39;ve put this in ... for a civil service job and I saw that I could do it, that I had qualified for it, so then I took the civil service exam .
