Rabies side effects
Rabies is an infectious disease that attacks the nervous system and cause encephalitis - rabies side effects are manifested in three distinct phases: prodromal phase, excitation phase and paralytic phase. Once the clinical signs appear, there is no treatment, rabies is fatal in 3-7 days of their installation.
Prodromal phase lasts 2-3 days and is manifested by behavioral changes, fever, slow eye reflexes and sometimes the animal licks its wound very insistent;
Excitation (furious) phase lasts 2-4 days, the animal showing signs of aggression, irritability, has the tendency to bite animals and objects nearby, bites and / or swallow inedible objects, runs away from home, may be disoriented, running aimlessly, with disordered movements, tremor, itching at the bitten place.
Paralytic (dumb) phase lasts 2-4 days and is manifested by paralysis of the entire body, starting with his wound place that caused the disease, in a short time the dog can not swallow. In this phase the dog is not dangerous because he can not bite. Coma installs and death occurs due to thoracic muscle paralysis, resulting in injunctive breathing.
Rabies side effects:
- Rabies goes first straight to the brain and then downwards through body.
- It also goes by the name of hydrophobia, resulting in the painfulness of swallowing liquids or anything else due to the swollen throat muscles.
- Hypersensitivity to touch and other stimulations .
- Aggressiveness, resulting in combativeness, inability to rationalize,extreme agitation.
- Weakness, lethargy, paralyzation, respitory failure, loss of appetite, delusions, hallucinations, confusion, seizures and death.
Rabies side effects can occur in different moments after the exposure to the virus. A person with a scratch on his hand requires o long period of time to develop symptoms of rabies than one person who gets a bite in the head. If rabies treatment is not initiated before the onset of symptoms death is imminent. There are five documented cases of human survival, who have been previously vaccinated or received post-exposure prophylaxis. Bat rabies can be less dangerous than the canine or other variations of rabies that are responsible for most cases of rabies.
